Dean’s Professor of English and Professor of Theatre




Bruce R. Smith, Dean’s Professor of English, is the author of seven books, most recently Shakespeare | Cut: Rethinking Cutwork in Distracted Times (Oxford University Press, 2016), Phenomenal Shakespeare (Wiley Blackwell, 2010), and The Key of Green: Passion and Perception in Renaissance Culture (University of Chicago Press, 2009). He served as president of the Shakespeare Association of America in 1994-95. The two-volume two-million-word Cambridge Guide to the Worlds of Shakespeare, for which he serves as General Editor, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2016. Prof. Smith also publishes in sound studies and color studies.
